Welcome!
4 April 2022
I cannot believe I am actually writing these words welcoming you to our new theatre and performance arts venue. After almost five years of planning, chopping and changing, demolishing and building, finishing and furnishing, Theatre Next Door is finally ready for public consumption! So here it is “Welcome to TND!” There I’ve said it and boy does it feel good.
I believe we have created a pretty cool space with three lovely studios, a wonderful black box theatre seating 148 as well as a little cafeteria too. We have strived to equip the space with the best equipment and technology we can afford as well as making the entire space feel welcoming, warm and conducive to creative work.
We wanted to create a mix of modern and traditional, retaining much of the old character that stemmed from the old farmhouse that the building once was. Hence the warmth and feel good factor that the building imparts on its visitors, whether actors, crew, creatives as well as causal visitors and audience members.
Our theatre is equipped with superb sound and light equipment, the black box itself is sound proofed and sound treated for excellent acoustics. It is also equipped with retractable seating, making the space extremely flexible.. The stage leads to a very comfortable backstage area comprising three decent sized dressing rooms, shower and toilet as well a cozy green room area perfect for a pre-show cuppa.
The three studios have Harlequin sprung flooring, mirrors and are each equipped with a small sound system which can cater for any type of rehearsal or even small performance. Each studio has light points were movable stage lights can be installed for small performances. We really tried to make this a comfortable experience for everyone.
Our theatre cafe is situated in the old part of the building which has been restored to its former glory making it a very cozy, comfy little cafe ideal for meeting fellow actors or for production meetings, or script meetings or just for a relaxing cappuccino.
What to expect from us? Well, FM Theatre Productions will be producing a plethora of productions throughout the year with a full season being launched in September 2022. Our website is still a work in progress so please bear with us! However, for the time being, do check out our two productions, Class – by Iseult Golden and David Horan, which is being directed by Chiara Hyzler, starring Nathan Brimmer, Philip Leone Ganado and Tina Rizzo. This will be FM Theatre Productions’ first production at their new home and you really don’t want to miss this. We then have Ross & Rachel by James Fritz which is being directed by Antonella Mifsud starring Maria Buckle, again, another wonderful production you really do not want to miss. We then welcome amazing work by Opening Doors, who are producing their annual performance at Theatre Next Door. Opening Doors are an amazing organization and we are so proud to work with them. I would also like to send my congratulations to Teatru Salesjan’s roaring voices, who performed The Rover or The Banish'd Cavaliers' by Mrs Aphra Behn directed by Polly March at Theatre Next Door in February. You are part of our history, and we wish you all the very best for the future.
We sincerely hope you come and visit us for a chat or for a coffee or even to chat about a show you may have in mind or indeed to come and see one of the shows in the theatre. For whatever the reason you are always welcome and we look forward to seeing you here.
